St. Francis of Assisi

St. Francis is best known for his pacifist beliefs and his ability to communicate with animals. This photograph shows the saint in deep rapport with a winged dog. The backdrop of candles is from the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City. The largest Cathedral in the world ( still under construction), St. John's hosts a Blessing of the Animals on the first Sunday of October. St. Francis is traditionally petitioned to settle disputes and to help with pet issues. The statues shown are from the collection of Susie Hewes.
