Lucky
Children
Known
as Da A Fu in Chinese, this happy couple provides protection, luck and
happiness.
Here
we see them riding in treasure-filled golden ingots, waving paper money
and coins. The characters around them stand for good luck, happiness,
love, peace, joy and long life. Especially popular around the new year,
they are placed on the doors of homes and businesses to invite good fortune.
Newlyweds place statues of them in their new homes.
Legend
has it that long ago in China there were two green lions that ate children.
The distraught people appealed to the Jade Emperor in heaven for intervention.
He sent down two powerful warrior spirits who transformed themselves into
the Lucky Children. They were able to control the lions and became beloved
heroes.
